Culturally, we believe that great people make great companies and that starting with the customer and working backward moves us forward.  We also value self-awareness, candor, lunch and WiFi. If we match with you, please apply to join us.

We view culture as a composite of our mission and values. A tremendous source of pride for us, our culture is inclusive of the work we do, and how we do it. Embracing change, thinking long-term, and continuously making decisions grounded in customer worship are a few tenets we live by. Surprise is key for us too, and that manifests in numerous areas, though most noticeably in our Editorial voice. We think taking our jobs seriously while not taking ourselves too seriously can be a healthy way to grow as a company.

In North America, we have our headquarters in Chicago, Illinois, a burgeoning office in Seattle, and an additional product development center in Palo Alto, California. All locations are accessible by public transportation or private teleportation. Additionally, some teammates work from home offices in many Groupon markets.

A new way to discover local causes, rally together, and lend a helping hand

Groupon Grassroots is our philanthropic arm featuring a wide variety of great local projects that subscribers can support. Every campaign connects consumers with enough people to achieve something awesome they couldn't have done alone. While Groupon helps build local businesses in each market, Groupon Grassroots helps support the communities where these business flourish.

In addition to helping these great causes through our consumers, our employees regularly get a chance to participate in projects themselves. We have also formed a Green Committee that works to keep our workplace sustainable, from getting rid of trash cans to providing reusable mugs for coffee and drinks.

Groupon’s Employee Volunteer Program is how we harness our collective employee power for positive change. Groupon employees regularly volunteer their time, skills and creative insights to help those in need and to help have a measurable impact on growing local economies, promoting distinctive communities and deepening our customers’ attachment to place.  Groupon is uniquely positioned to address a wide range of needs and issues in diverse communities due to the range of skills and talents our diverse staff hold—if there’s a need, we can fill it.

I have been working at Groupon full-time for more than a year

Amazing office culture with all the tech company perks like massages, team events and vibrant office environment.
Inspiring to be part of a growing company that not only focusses on its own growth but also helps small businesses all around Australia to grow and prosper. It is great to know that my deals not only earn me commission but help business owners in my city and also help customers explore their city.
Great to see a lot of internal promotion and people growing through the ranks. We are all really young and starting our careers but it is cool to see people step into shoes one size too big and grow into them quickly.
The company focusses heavily on technology and processes, for the past year it has been hard to cope with so much change but it is starting to pay off now and the tools are super helpful.
It sounds cheesy but everyone is friends.. people know each other in different departments and we hang out as much inside the office as outside.

One of the hard things of working for a fast moving company is that it always changes. It is sometimes frustrating to cope with the change but it is usually for the better.
Some of the managers are pretty young and I wish they took more time to support their employees and not just focus on the job at hand.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior leadership really care about the business and the employees. This business has gone through a lot over the past 3.5 years but the current leadership team are the best we have had.
They communicate a lot, sometimes it even feels like too much, but it is great that they constantly share wins and losses and our strategy going forward. It helps us to all work together.

    Software Engineer Interview

    Anonymous Employee  in  Sydney
    Anonymous Employee in Sydney
    Application Details

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months - interviewed at Groupon in April 2014.

    Interview Details

Recruiter contacted on LinkedIn about interest in relocated to roles in USA. Replied that I was

Did a phone interview with recruiter, 40 mins about what I work on and am interested in, learned about Groupon and relocation. I was told there'd be a tech screen call with an engineer, if successful I'd be invited to a hiring day in Sydney or Melbourne Australia which would be 4-5 interviews. If successful they'd let me know within 1-2 weeks with an expectation to relocate within 2-3 months. Recruiter was friendly and answered all of my questions well

Did a phone technical screen - quite easy, was implement my own atoi() in c

Recruiter got in touch a few days later, I'd done well, would I come to an interview day in Sydney a few weeks later. Many engineers were flying out to Australia and I'd be required to do 4 back to back interviews during the day

I took a day of work and went along to the hiring day. I had four interviews. 2 I did very well in and answered the questions with lots of time to spare with working solutions, then built on top of these with additional problems

3rd interview didnt go well, I was stumped by the question and took the completely wrong approach

4th interview was ok, the coding question was easy but was followed up with some harder system design questions i didn't answer as well as I could have

After 4 interviews I was thanked by the recruiter who promised to get back to me the next week, if not the week after. 2 months later and I haven't heard anything.

I'm not surprised or disappointed not to have got the job - I knew I did badly in the third interview. However after taking a day of work and travelling a long way to attend, I find it pretty rude I haven't even got an email to say thanks but no thanks..

All the interviewers were extremely nice and friendly with me, and answered questions about their experiences at groupon. Many had moved over from Australia in years gone by so it was good to get their perspective on things. 1 interviewer was not so good, he came in to the room, didn't even introduce himself, asked a question then stared at his watch the whole time and really didnt interact with me.
