As part of the Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Berkeley and Oakland, California, Thunder Road is a substance abuse treatment program for adolescents in Northern California. Thunder Road was established in January 1987, and its mission is to: Assist youth and their families in the challenges to recover from the abuse of alcohol, drugs and nicotine, and to support their growth as healthy, connected and honorable members within our neighborhoods and communities.

The Catering Cook reports to the Chef and is responsible for taking customer phone orders; preparation and delivery of meals and kitchen sanitation. The volume and nature of catering requests is variable and will determine the days and hours of work. The ability to adapt to schedule changes will be required. Occasional work on weekends will be required.Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Ability to read & write.

Experience: Four years experience working and cooking in a restaurant or commercial kitchen preparing meals for large numbers.

Knowledge: Culinary knowledge of meal preparation, baking, inventory, catering, ordering supplies, instructing, problem solving, and organizational skills. Knowledge of computer applications (work, excel, access, etc.) preferred.

License, cert, and/or registration req.: ServSafe certificate preferred. Valid Class C California Driver's License, or an administrative waiver. First aid and CPR certification required within 90 days after date of hire.

Special Skills and/or Equipment used: Stove, meat slicer, fryer, mixer, food processer, dish machine, oven, convection oven

Special Requirements:

1. Minimum 21 years of age.

2. Be free of, and have had the last two years prior to employment free of, any chemical dependency.

3. Completion of a pre-placement physical examination including drug screening.

4. Satisfy all statutory and regulatory requirements to qualify as a child care worker in a group home licensed by the California Department of Social Services (CDSS). Without limiting this, the applicant/incumbent must pass the various security checks required by the CDSS and by any other agencies with jurisdiction over Thunder Road, ie, LifeScan fingerprinting.
