What does a Patient Care Representative do?

Patient care representatives support and assist patients in preparing for a medical procedure, hospital admission, or other treatment process. They often serve as a coordinator or liaison who communicates instructions and updates to patients and ensures that all required paperwork and other mandatory steps have been completed. They perform a range of clerical and administrative support tasks, including compiling and processing admission documents and discharge orders. They also explain procedures and provide patients with resources and information.

Patient care representatives have at least a high school diploma, but additional education or training is an asset. Experience working in a healthcare setting is helpful. They must be organized and detail oriented with good patient relations skills. Proficiency with common office software programs such as Excel is expected.
