Am I going to be worked to the bone if I join a group where I’d be the only associate supporting partners and counsels? It’s a subgroup of a corporate practice that focuses on a specialized area with great exit options and operates as a support group for other transactional and/or lit groups (like tax or IP). It’s a newly created position meaning there aren’t any previous associates that I can ask about their experience. I really like type of work the team does but worried about being miserable.

My company has been getting hit with the gamut of shakedown litigation. ADA website suit settled for $500 with $5k to my atty, 17501 settled for $5k with $30k to my atty, now facing two arbitrations for CIPA. I just activated my bar card - graduated in 2005 from Columbia, clerked for a federal judge and never practiced - went to McKinsey. Founded the company back in 2008. Am I an idiot for thinking I can handle these myself with no litigation experience? Sick of paying the atty fees.

I've decided that the future at Accenture is not one I want to continue investing my time into. Too many cliques, too much PMO related to whatever enterprise platform the client is currently bungling. I tried my best, it isn't working out. I have strong LS experience pre-consulting. I either want to lateral to a better shop, e.g. LEK, or go industry - preferably an innovative startup (I'm not built for the politics of big pharma). Could anyone comment/advise on whether their firm is hiring?

Newish equity partner here (2012 Grad) and I have some advice for associates I wish someone would have told me ten years ago. DONT TRY TO PLEASE EVERYONE. It likely won't work and you will burn out. It is much easier and safer to pick a small group to please and forsake everyone else. This comes naturally to some but it was a struggle for me.

For attorneys at Sidley, how are the ECVC folks from WilmerHale integrating at the firm? Any thoughts on joining that firm as a senior associate from one of the big tech law firms' ECVC (e.g. WSGR, Cooley, Goodwin, Gunderson)? Would that be a smart move?
