      Ask A Recruiter - Law

      Attorney

Hello! I’m a former federal law clerk (district and COA) currently working in big law in the DC/NoVA area. I’m looking to transition to a boutique firm where there is more high impact litigation (trial or appellate- although I prefer appellate). My current firm promised white collar and federal litigation and in-court experience when I interviewed but never delivered. I’m interested in Clement & Murphy or similar. What are the billables & pay? How does one get their foot in the door?

Biglaw lawyers: Can you tell me about your transition to FIRE? I’m 42 and think I’m close to a number I’m comfortable with. About 3.5% SWR and I am willing to flex and take some risk as my kid is in lower elementary and I don’t want to miss much more of their childhood. But also scared to leave the job completely. Did anyone make more a coast type transition? Anything I can do as a litigator that is very part time and without the mental monopoly of Biglaw work?

Chem and Bio lab jobs paid me $15-20 / hour in 1996 in North Carolina. So explain to me why the jobs on Glass door pay BS Chemists $13.50-17.00? A dollar in 1996 will buy $2.06 of goods today. Therefore, just to keep up with inflation, the pay would need to be $30-40 / hour None of the products or services were dropped in price after they got the labor for half price. Therefore a massive decline in the value of a BS Chemistry degree to less than McDonald's or Dollar Tree.

I'm a Relationship manager for a bank that works with Auto Dealers. My job is to keep the partnership alive cut through the red tape for the bank and also the dealer. I make about 80k a year after bonus and commission. I have very good understanding of how to underwrite deals and also funding process. I know the Automotive side like the back of my hand, banking side not so much. Is there any certifications I can try to get to move up on the banking side, to raise my pay?

Does anyone know how or who to contact to report a formal complaint about a cheif of a department? Yesterday was my first day at my duty station, I was disclosed about all this additional training and driving that was not disclosed to me and when I asked for a reasonable accommodation she immediately denied me so basically I was pushed into a corner and quit. I have never been spoken to like that before in my career at the VA.

Transactional junior in Big Law that wants to switch to Lit. Firm MP not willing to allow switch due to recent loses in our transactional practice group. Am I crazy for thinking of going to a boutique lit firm that does white collar, ID (products liability and more higher end ID), and some regulatory work? The lateral market is just not there right now, but I’m on my way to year 3 and I don’t want to be stuck in my practice area.

Anyone ever transferred their CPA license from California to Texas? I am currently trying to do the same, but I noticed the Texas instructions include as a requirement a “letter of good standing” from the accountancy board where I am transferring my license from, my question is… is the letter of good standing the same as the “interstate exchange certification” you obtain from the California board of accountancy? Thx!!😊

      Career Pivot

      District Sales Manager
      9mo

Hello! I was in the CPG industry for almost 20yrs, after a restructure my position was eliminated. Those 20yrs were all with the same company, which seems like a red flag to hiring managers. I am trying to make a pivot to something else..... Currently working on getting my property and casualty license. Any suggestions on how to get started in the insurance industry? With a trusted company that isn't all commission?

i Guys, Recently, I got an offer of 10 lakhs from the Hackett group India Ltd based out of Hyderabad. They are asking me to sign a legal document which includes to mention the details of a blank cheque worth 2 lakhs. The HR said that they are doing it for security reasons, in case if I don't join the organisation post 90days of notice period. Can anyone help me if this is a standard practice or is it some scam?
