Am I going to be worked to the bone if I join a group where I’d be the only associate supporting partners and counsels? It’s a subgroup of a corporate practice that focuses on a specialized area with great exit options and operates as a support group for other transactional and/or lit groups (like tax or IP). It’s a newly created position meaning there aren’t any previous associates that I can ask about their experience. I really like type of work the team does but worried about being miserable.

      Ask A Recruiter - Law

Are there recruiters who specifically handle JD-Advantage roles, or am I on my own for this kind of search? I graduated law school a year ago, passed the bar, and realized I actually hate the idea of practicing law in a traditional firm. I’m really interested in compliance or legal tech consulting, but my law school’s career office only knows how to help people get into firms. I feel like I’m wasting my degree if I don't practice, but I know I’ll be miserable if I do.

      Consulting Exit Opportunities

Cross-post: As i exit my unsupported role, during my sync with my boss, it’s almost like we’re doing retro on what went wrong (seems tone deaf after 4 months of escalation). And now my manager is asking me to look at a revised JD as they restart the recruiting process for my role. While it sounds “collaborative”, it also feels like they’re continuing to extract insights/consulting from me on how to hire. I’d like to politely decline but curious how people have handled it in the past.

Toxic I started in JD wetherspoon nearly a decade ago at the time it was a good company to work for however over the last 4'years they have become more money driven and more toxic there more worried about making profit then actually running good pubs cutting hours to the point where there high standards are next to impossible to manage on a skeleton crew 7 days a week. If your just starting out looking for work differently would avoid joining JD wetherspoon

Follow-up question. Yesterday - I said a recruiter reached out to me and, based on this group’s advice, I asked the recruiter for the job description. Their response: “Hi, I do not have a JD for this role. This is with and would be a fully remote year long, might be longer project. This would be a one step video interview process and would be paid through JCW.” I removed the hiring company name. Is this normal? Advice?

Hey all, I’m a native Vancouverite looking to move back home after 12 years in an American big city. Looking for a JD preferred job; I help clients understand complex terms, evaluate regulatory and contractual risks, and strengthen the clarity and effectiveness of their agreements, policies, and business materials. This is a complete shot in the dark but if anyone on here is from Vancouver, please message me!

Will you modify and tailor your resume based on a vacancy's JD, or do you prefer to send your resume without any modifications to multiple recruiters? For me it seems to have a higher success rate to get an interview by customizing my resume based on the JD. I used to highlight those background of mine that identical to the requirement in JD which helps me to draw attention of recruiter.

Has anyone switched practice groups later in your career (as a mid/senior associate)? Or know people who did? What has your/their experience been like? I’m currently a 5th year restructuring associate feeling a bit pigeonholed but also worried that I’m too expensive to train.
