Had my first group interview on Zoom last Friday. What a strange and awkward experience. There were 10 of us and 1 person doing the interviews. It was traumatizing for some. Many people don't have experience interviewing, much less a group interview on camera. It's got to be the worst way to hire people that I can imagine. One guy couldn't do it and turned his camera off mid-sentence. Has anyone else been through an uncomfortable group interview? I will never partake again. Total waste of time.

Am I going to be worked to the bone if I join a group where I’d be the only associate supporting partners and counsels? It’s a subgroup of a corporate practice that focuses on a specialized area with great exit options and operates as a support group for other transactional and/or lit groups (like tax or IP). It’s a newly created position meaning there aren’t any previous associates that I can ask about their experience. I really like type of work the team does but worried about being miserable.

After 6 years, my journey in Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. has come to end. It was truly a privilege to gain so much experience and given the opportunity to work from home and be part of an amazing team when I was promoted to the Groups Department. It is...unfortunate, that the company did not value me, they did not value my loyalty or the skills that I brought to the table during their company restructure and let me go without explanation. But it's as they say, "It's their lost"

My Partner I have worked with the past few years is moving groups due to a recent reorg. The new group is risk and regulatory and doesn’t necessarily sit within my interests. The projects I’ve worked on in the past are not risk and reg. Year end reviews will also be with a different group I want to continue working with this Partner as he has always had my back, but I’m not sure if this move is the right one for me. I am just struggling with what to do as I am in a promotion year

I recently joined a new firm and while everyone’s technically nice, there’s a clear “in group” on every project. Jokes I don’t get, Slack threads I’m not tagged in, impromptu coffee chats I only hear about after the fact. It’s not toxic, but it’s definitely isolating. I’m trying not to force connections or be that person who pushes too hard to fit in, but I also don’t want to stay on the outside. How do you actually build real relationships across teams like this?

So now this is 4 ( these are all zoom and in same day in 10 days or so, meeting with Sr. Director, Director, and VP of group), assuming people i’d be working with. Does this sound like the final round? After these interviews we will be approaching the 2 month mark. Anyways, very excited about potential opportunity but would LOVE some insight.

Anyone from ZS can confirm what is the Decision Analytics group? What type of projects do they do? How does it interact with other verticals of the consulting business? Generalist or specialist? Client facing? Also, if someone is open to chat, it would be appreciated as well. Was approached by a recruiter for a role in this practice in the London office and would love to know more. Thanks!

About 2.5 years / 10k miles into my current Volvo 3 year / 36k miles XC90 lease. Debating whether I buy the car or turn it in. Like the car (but not madly in love with). What would you do? What other factors would you consider? Definitely need a 7-seater SUV. Alternates would be leasing or buying another (e.g., Audi Q7).
