Pros

Promotes education and professional development. If it weren't for CSMC, I likely would not have had the motivation to obtain my first certification, and although I left, the motivation continues to... push me to getting a second.

Cons

Micromanagement, bullying, favoritism, inconsistency. The usual you see in any work environment, except micromanagement was to a particular extreme (of course, this depends on your unit).... Participation in work committees was not only available, but felt expected (if not at least highly incentivized via yearly pay raise).
