Former Contractor - Field Worker

I worked at Roy Morgan Research for more than 3 years

Pros

pay rate is excellent for a field worker and you earn more per year. Everyone is very positive and they really look after their own.

Cons

Dealing with the public, a lot of negative people out there and you need to learn how to deal with them at the front door.

Advice to Management

When the going gets tough extra training in the self confidence area and learn how to deal with difficult situations and put it into practice as in a hands on review.

I have been working at Wonder

Pros

- You can choose how much you work; there is no minimum - You can choose questions that are within your field - You learn interesting facts as you are working - There is a bidding system so you... can ask for a higher payment for answering a question - There is a Slack community which provides timely answers to questions - You can work from home - There is no telephoning involved - Payment is through Paypal so it is available globally - Good work is acknowledged and rewarded (being used as exemplar questions) - It is possible to fail gracefully on impossible requests; that is, if you have put a lot of hard work into a question and there is no answer, you can still get paid for your effort if you explain what you did learn and why the answer was not possible to find. - If your answer is rejected, feedback is extensive enough to learn from your mistakes and fix your answer. - There are weekly emails updating what new things are going on - There is a very good and simple citation system to show your source - There is an amazingly useful resource center with templates and useful websites to guide your answer - It encourages creative thinking and problem solving as for some answers you have to be creative how to figure out numbers - It is a very kind and friendly online community - They are very often updating and bringing in new improvements - within a space of two months, a new scoring system, peer review, a spellchecker and a citation system were introduced.

Cons

- Some days there are "lulls" and few questions within your field so work is not always available - The scoring and points per response system can seem intimidating - Usually you will end up... working much longer than three hours on one question - After you complete the question, sometimes it takes quite a long time for it to get approved there is only a thirty minute window to re-attempt the question, otherwise someone else can take it. However, after a few responses, you are more likely to get the hang of it thus get approved.

Advice to Management

Since clients often do not always rate responses.it can mean that one's points per response goes "down" just by answering many questions even if they are approved straightaway so it would be good if... there were other means of getting points.
