How are senior leaders perceived at OpenMarket?

Pros

New leadership is focusing on the right things to move the business forward. Encourages collaboration from the top down. Company needed a new direction and new leadership is making good changes. Values diversity. I feel valued and heard as an employee and enjoy working here. Challenging problems to solve and a bright future to look forward to.

Cons

Some are stuck in the old way of doing things and need to modernize which leadership is addressing. Need to simplify how our platform functions and reduce complexities. Bad attitudes are few but can be problematic when trying to change how things are done.

Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing. Make the hard decisions and continue to address areas that need improving.

How are the career development opportunities at OpenMarket?

Pros

- Friendly & welcoming culture - Approachable SLT - Fair salary - Great benefits package - Good career prospects

Cons

- The hours can be long (9 hour days are the standard requirement) - The commute can be an issue (London office) as the office is not central and the train lines servicing the station aren't the most reliable - IT & systems onboarding is painful because of the crossover with Amdocs (parent company) & OpenMarket systems. There isn't really a clear process to follow, and everybody seems to have issues for the first few weeks at least. This is more of a reflection on Amdocs than OpenMarket though - There isn't an official flexible working policy (and the IT issues make this more challenging too)

- Good career prospects

What kind of career opportunities exist at OpenMarket?

Pros

Lots of legacy code needs to be rethinked giving a great opportunity to improve professionally. Local Management at México seems to understand work/life balance of their employees without being too soft. Recognition of employees extra efforts put in order to accomplish the goals when required. Diverse activities to perform outside work hours enabled by OpenMarket itself to keep every employee in the office in touch. Amdocs gives economical/future certainty for the company.

Cons

Morale outside México seems to be down, and wanting it or not, that gives some uncertainty feels about the upper management. Amdocs is a slight obstacle due small company values differences but nothing to worry about, really Some projects seems to be out of direction or without much purpose . Foreign development teams seem to be disconnected from one another Office shared with Amdocs and not owned by them either, so location could be better.

Advice to Management

Time to show everything is under control.

What is the feeling of job security at OpenMarket?

Pros

Good benefits, and when they've been poor, management listened to employees and improved them. The company has a strong committment to career development, and managers are supportive of this. A very collaberative work environment, especially within all teams I've worked with. Management seeks to identify and address issues. The recent change in senior personel has been far less disruptive than it could have been, and is being used as an opportunity to take stock of where the company is in all areas.

Cons

There are issues with cross-functional communication, which can be very frustrating. It appears as though some dev teams have little direction and are not delivering clear business value. There has been lots of change recently, which has been challenging.

Advice to Management

Keep working on enabling communication throughout the company. Not just up down, but across teams and departments, including at non-manager levels. Take good stock of what work is being done and whether it is delivering value - don't be afraid to change even long established teams.

There has been lots of change recently, which has been challenging.

Does there seem to be diversity at OpenMarket?

Pros

I’ve been with OpenMarket for more than five years, and can say without hesitation that it has been the most rewarding professional experience of my life. At OpenMarket I’ve been able to take ownership of company-wide projects and processes, hire and grow a global team, and generally be creative in a way I’d never be able to at bigger organization. But the best thing about OpenMarket by far is the people – they’re genuine, passionate about technology, supportive and honestly, just fun and funny. I actually look forward to going to meetings at OpenMarket because I always end up having real, spirited conversation, and laughing a lot – even with the CEO! – and I can’t say that’s ever been the case for me before. Another major perk of OpenMarket is it’s size -it’s big enough that we have good resources, like awesome benefits and ability to travel, but small enough that you can still make a major, visible impact with minimal red tape. The last major aspect of OpenMarket I can’t go without mentioning is our efforts to bolster diversity and inclusion. We have made huge strides bringing more women into the organization, especially in the tech space. Though there is definitely still room to grow from a diversity and inclusion perspective, as a woman I can say I personally feel the efforts around inclusivity paying off on a daily basis.

Cons

There are some downsides to OpenMarket of course, like a big parent company that is incredibly resistant to change and has cumbersome systems and processes that don't always sync with common sense.

Advice to Management

Protect the amazing OpenMarket culture and keep up efforts around diversity and inclusion.
