What is the hiring process like at Roblox?

      Roblox reviews

      Completely Dysfunctional Hiring Team

      Technical sourcer
      Former employee
      San Mateo, CA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Money is good, you get two weeks off during the wintertime.

      Cons

The hiring process is beyond broken. Engineers with low emotional intelligence think they can run candidates through the wringer and take months of their time and then also reject them for breathing the wrong way, and surprise! They reign supreme at this company, so no feedback. This cycle continues, talent team feeds more candidates into the process only for them to be rejected. If you’re a recruiter or sourcer, be warned. Management is nepotistic, and only serves to carry the proverbial club of “feed more candidates into the grinder or be fired”. No one wants to improve this process. And diversity, me oh my. They promoted someone with zero diversity experience to run that team, but it isn’t the least bit important because the company couldn’t care less beyond making the driest effort at it. They’ll secretly believe “we hire the best” while also handing out a school list that they want their candidates from. There is no critical thinking here. No process improvements. You’ll be disappeared, sometimes in bulk as this last year showed. Engineers will run you with no expectation of feedback, lord knows they couldn’t hire their way out of a paper bag either.

Recruiting and Sourcing Org - The most toxic work enviornment

      Technical sourcer
      Former employee
      San Mateo, CA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

-Free lunch -Company events -Typical perks at any tech company

      Cons

I worked on the recruiting/sourcing team. There were alot of re-orgs and restructuring so your manager could've changed every 6 months to a year and having to get placed on a new team. The recruiting process here was extremely broken and biased. We were encouraged to look at candidates from top companies, top schools (which has been proven to be a lack of diversity - in terms of socioeconomic backgrounds, ethnicity, and life experiences etc. they don't care as long as they are "the best of the best" at Roblox) They also wanted you to funnel as many candidates as possible just to string them along to say no or the job changed or is no longer available. Very elitist environment. The recruiting org was also very clique. They also did unethical layoffs, lured you into a meeting with your manager and then had some HR director you've never met and the director of the org lay you off without any explanation and without your manager there, didn't matter if you hit 100% of your goals (which was the case you can see everyones hires and acceptances across the board) some recruiters or sourcers had no hires for 2+ years and they were still kept on the team. If you look at which companies they were from nepotism strongly plays a case here.

Talented and inspiring co-workers, misguided leaders

      Design
      Former employee
      San Mateo, CA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Roblox was able to attract top talent over their growth period in 2021. You will find highly skilled individuals across all disciplines. The company is biased toward taking the long view and investing in innovative new ideas.

      Cons

Leadership is sophomoric and can't scale and delegate to their people. Dropping stock prices changed company culture from focusing on safety and integrity to growth at all costs.

Totally clueless hiring team and zero role clarity

      Sr. research specialist
      Current employee
      Gurgaon, Haryana
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Honestly, none. The only thing that worked fine was the interview scheduling.

      Cons

      1. No role clarity at all. They post senior, research-focused positions but interview you for basic coordination work. Feels like they don’t even read their own job descriptions. 2. Totally clueless panel. Interviewers were junior, unprepared, and had no idea what “strategic” even means. The conversation stayed on entry-level topics the whole time. 3. Still figuring things out in India. The company is in its early stage here and it shows, no structure, no process, and no senior oversight. 4. Talent is just a word here. Most people are from the same old company circle. It’s not about skills, it’s about who you know. Connections > Competence. 5. Big gap between image and reality. They talk big about global standards, but the execution feels like a local staffing agency trying to act corporate. 6. If you already have a good job, stay there. You’ll regret leaving for this place. It’s not worth the headache or the disappointment. 7. An overhyped company with confused leadership and fake “talent.” Nothing strategic, nothing impressive, just noise and connections. Stay away unless you enjoy frustration.
