I responded to an online ad for this position. The supervisor for this position called me the next day and asked me to come in for an interview that Monday. The 1:1 interview with her went well and she went on to explain benefits and vacation time, offered me a tour of the office, etc. She also asked me if I could come back that week to informally meet with other members of the organization. She was going to be out of town, but she wanted me to come in as soon as possible. A receptionist called me and set up the appointment.
That week I met with four members of the organization and they ended up interviewing me, even though I was told I wouldn't be interviewed again. It went really well and I sent a thank you to each of them, as I had to the supervisor. I also emailed her to let her know that I had received a warm welcome from everyone and very much enjoyed the meeting.
She immediately asked me for my references. I provided three professional references and mentioned that my most recent supervisor was traveling extensively and that if she desired a conversation with him, I could try and set it up, but that I might need more lead time to do so. She replied that she would like to talk to him. I contacted him, made an appointment with his assistant and let her know the time and phone number.
It turns out that she never called him back when he tried to reach her several times over a few days. She also never called any of the accessible references I provided. I finally received an email from her letting me know that she had chosen another candidate. I responded and thanked her for her consideration and asked for feedback on any conflicts of deficiencies in my candidacy. She never responded.
I am very unsatisfied that I responded to her urgent requests for meetings and references, went out of my way to set up a phone call with someone who was traveling around the country at the time and she never checked the references I provided, never called back the one with whom she strongly desired to speak and she didn't even have the consideration to provide a response or feedback on my candidacy.
What poor representation for this organization!
