My experience interviewing with Bitly was extremely negative. First, there was a one-hour call with the manager, followed by another hour-long call with the hiring manager. After that, they assigned a test task that took about eight hours to complete: I had to write a microservice for the Stripe payment system. The task seemed unreasonably time-consuming and not at all appropriate in scope for an initial screening stage.
Next, there was a call with two developers. Their questions appeared superficial, and their professionalism seemed lacking—it felt like I was being interviewed by people who didn’t fully understand the topic. After a week, I received nothing but a brief rejection email stating, “Unfortunately, you did not pass the technical assessment.”
When I requested additional feedback, I was simply ignored. Overall, it was a significant waste of time. The company demands a lot from candidates, doesn’t provide a well-designed test, and gives no meaningful feedback. I would not recommend anyone to spend their time interviewing at Bitly.
