      The initial process and experience with Braze was great - in fact during the process I had another interview process in progress and was strongly leaning towards Braze; however, this changed at the last step when I had a terrible experiencing when ADA addressing reasonable accommodation and my disability. The first step was a simple phone screen with an internal recruiter on their People team. Next, I spoke with a manager in the Success team and lastly I had a panel interview with some of the Success team. This was actually really valuable - the team was friendly and although they weren't easy on me with the questions, it offered real insight into their process and thinking. Unfortunately - this is where the good news ends. Given I had another offer on the table at this point, I needed to speak with the HR team at Braze to broach the subject of my disabilities and reasonable accommodation. I was passed along to a more senior person in the People team who I spoke with on the phone. After revealing my disability and laying out my accommodation, she proceeded to tell me that accommodations were meant for 'people with wheelchairs' for example and that I should have brought this up sooner. After the call I asked to speak to someone more senior and let the team know that I was revoking my candidacy. Braze was really great after this in putting me in touch with the right folks, hearing what had happened and offering to let me go along in the process but the damage was done. I had already let the other offer sit for as long as I could and even if I did complete the presentation portion of the interview (the last step) if I didn't get the offer I would never truly know it wasn't because of my disability. I hope the learnings from the experience were gathered by the team but given my experience, I would not recommend interviewing with Braze for people with disabilities. Although they did their best to address the issue - being disabled means that you often hear that you are too disabled or not disabled enough, and there's never a right answer.

This is not representative of Braze as a company, nor does it illustrate our company culture. In regards to the interview experience, the feedback that you provided was valuable. Our mistake was escalating your situation to another recruiter instead of a Human Resources Business Partner who would have been the appropriate person in this situation. Since getting your feedback, two changes have been made: 1. If a similar situation arises, we will immediately bring in a Human Resources Business Partner, not a more senior recruiter. 2. We have built out new training for situations when candidates share that they have a disability. This training will be done by all interviewers and managers so that we, as a company, understand the correct escalation process and improve the overall interview experience for candidates with disabilities. Again, we apologize for the negative experience and thank you for providing direct feedback to the team, which has helped improve our hiring practices.

Everyone I spoke with was nice, but I got rejected with an automated email providing no feedback. Considering they are not a big company, they should consider providing feedback to applicants to avoid ruining the application experience
