      Senior Net Developer Interview

      5 Jan 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Denver, CO
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Crownpeak (Denver, CO) in Dec 2017

      Interview

I and one other candidate met the two interviewers outside the office lobby and we went down to the adjoining hotel. (The Denver office is in a high-rise attached to a hotel.) One of the interviewers ordered a beer. I had a water, and the others each ordered a soft drink. The whole thing lasted maybe an hour. They asked how we performed "small steps aggressively" in our development work, which sounds like a sort of formula that must be strictly followed during Crownpeak's development process. The lead interviewer seemed to want to know why I don't my current client to convert the WPF application I am working on into a pure web application. He also asked us how old we were. Apparently no one has told them that this is something you are not allowed to ask, since it can open the employer up to a discrimination lawsuit. Perhaps I should have terminated the interview right then, but stupidly I answered the question. I also was not allowed to finish answering the question of what kinds of teams I have worked on. After the drinks we went back up to the office and they showed us around. They seemed very concerned that we saw how everyone works as a team there. If you're over 40 this probably isn't the place for you. I saw maybe 3 people who weren't Millennials in that office. Given how the company presents itself on its website (e.g., referring to employees as "Crownpeeps" and emphasizing how much fun it is to work there, as if the company were straight out of the 90s dot-com boom), you probably won't fit in if you just want to get work done and go home to a life outside the job.
