      Assistant Community Manager Interview

      15 June 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Greystar in May 2018

      Interview

Emailed resume to PM after seeing post on FB about open position on May 21st. Received an email on the 23rd to schedule interview for the 25th. First interview was one on one with PM and while it was generally informal, she was definitely making sure that we clicked and that I would be a good fit for the property/had experience. I then was invited to fill out the online application and complete the assessment. I received another email on June 1st asking to schedule a 2nd interview with herself and the Regional on June 4th. The 2nd interview was much more formal and included way more in depth questions about my abilities, experience (financials, evictions, deposit accounting, resident issues, team leadership, etc.). They were very in depth questions and some were very open ended, so you'll want to be prepared. Thankfully, I felt that I answered honestly but confidently. He said he liked my answers and that they had a few more interviews to do, but that we'd hear back by Friday. I got an email the next day from the PM letting me know that she was going to call the next day to offer me the position and at a higher pay rate than previously discussed! I will say that background screening is ULTRA thorough. They also do an intense employment history check as well, likely to weed out people who lie on their resumes/applications. It does take quite a while for the background screening/employment verification/drug tests to get completed and then for them to receive the clear for hire. I did not start until June 14th even though I was offered the position on the 6th. Overall, I am very lucky to have found such an awesome PM and team and the process, although lengthy and thorough, was pleasant.

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Greystar (Hayward, CA) in Apr 2026

      Interview

I have applied for multiple Assistant Property Manager positions with this company over the past three years. Each time, the process has followed a very similar pattern. I interview with the on-site manager and those conversations typically go very well, leading to the next step with a regional manager. During these later-stage interviews, I have often been given the impression that I am moving forward in the hiring process or being strongly considered. However, shortly afterward, I receive an automated email stating that I am no longer being considered for the position. While I understand that hiring decisions can be competitive and complex, the repeated lack of clear communication or feedback after reaching advanced stages of the interview process has been discouraging and frustrating.
