I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at HII (Norfolk, VA) in June 2016
Interview
I arrived there early to find parking and locate the building to check in. After checking in a hiring manager picked me up and drove me over to the engineering offices. We had a short conversation about general interests, hobbies, and school. We sat down at the hiring manager's desk and talked about my resume and the current project they were working on. We discussed the roles and responsibilities of the position and how the process will go in getting you up to speed. After that there was time for questions. I had a number of questions. I think that helped me stand out a bit. Overall it was not a stressful process.
I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at HII (Hampton, VA) in Oct 2021
Interview
I was well qualified for several of their positions. I suspected that they were not interviewing me because I was Black. I had to trick them to get an interview. I tricked them by saying that my ethnicity was multi-race. (almost every American is Multi Racial). In the interview, there was was no question that I could not answer and showed a great deal of knowledge about their process. It was clear, after they saw that I was Black, there was nothing I could say that would convince them that I would be value added to their company. They acted as if I was going to be called by HR for on boarding and within a week I got an email that I was not chosen.
Flew me out for some event, gave us dinner and a goodie bag/packet. Interviewed with two hiring managers, but they didn't give me feed back on the in person interview for at least 3 months after.

Interview
Talked to one of the members of the recruiting team during a job conference in Philly. Secured an interview next day during the career fair. Waited a long time for the offer, about a month or two. They emailed me saying they wanted me to apply formally after telling me they're interested in giving me a job.
