I applied through university. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at ION Trading (New York, NY) in Mar 2015
Interview
The interview process consisted of 6 rounds of interviews and a case study. Each interview was 30 minutes with a 10 minute break between each of the interviews. There was a case study where you had 1 hour to prepare and then had to give a 30 minute presentation in front of three of the managers.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at ION Trading (Toronto, ON)
Interview
Didn't get an offer, but was a fairly intensive process as outlined below:
- first round phone screening (recruitment firm)
- second round in-person: {IQ Test, Developer-focused interview though this was for a non-dev position, and a final 1:1 with another office manager} --> overall technical/aptitude focus
- third round teleconference interview with group lead based in London, UK --> mostly theoretical focus (bonds, equities, and some spontaneous random questions like "what's 108 multiplied by 8" or "if a clock shows 4:10pm, tell me how you would obtain the angle of the...")
- fourth round teleconference interview with COO Gavin Bambury based in London, UK
Overall wouldn't say the interviews were that grueling, but I was surprised to not get an offer. Judging from the feedback I received from my headhunter re: 4th round interview, it's quite possible that there's probably some mismanaged expectations at this company.
Bottom line: I was interviewing for a business analyst / client-facing (basically glorified tech support) role @ 45-60k tops... and was essentially rejected due to my lack of capital market policy knowledge (i.e. Dodd Frank and Volker details). In retrospect, and reading other company reviews here, seems like there's some top-down elitism/toxicity at this place.
Overall pretty crappy experience.
