      Interview

Submitted my application and received an email about 2 weeks later from a recruiter about setting up an introductory interview over the phone. Interview was fine. I basically read my resume and they read the job description. At the end, the recruiter told me they would like to move forward and would send me an assessment to complete in 1 week. The assessment required me to edit, review, and create some Spanish content questions. I spent a day (about 5-6 hours) completing and reviewing the assignment. I got an email a week later that they decided not to move forward with no other feedback or info. I was weary of putting in that much work before even an actual interview, but I loved the job description so I did it anyways. I wish I would have listened to the reviews and not spent almost 10 hours on this job (application, 600 word cover letter, phone interview, and assessment).

      Interview

I was a bit weary of interviewing with this company going into it because of what I have read on here. Nonetheless, I decided to move forward interviewing for a Spanish curriculum designer role. The first round with the recruiter went well and I found her to be very straight-forward and informative. When she said she would send me an invite to the next round, I was skeptical. But the next day in my inbox I had my assignment for the take-home task. I spent close to three hours on the take-home task; it is thorough and demands a lot of critical thinking and writing. After putting forward the best result I could, I was sent a generic rejection email by a recruiter. After asking her to please supply me with feedback, given that this was a lengthy, unpaid assignment, she apologized and stated it was not within company policy to give feedback. As others have expressed, this is frustrating at best. I have done many other take-home tasks for interviewing, and this one was the lengthiest by far. To have it be unpaid feels exploitative. I received no reassurance that they are not using the material I provided in the task for their own benefit in creating their curriculum, and no feedback on how I could've improved my project input. I strongly feel that IXL needs to do better with their interview process.

      Interview

I'm just another voice echoing what everyone else has said about the interview process. I completed the screener interview with someone from HR and was immediately sent the performance task. I spent days working on it because I wanted to turn in my best work, which I believe I did. After a few days, I was told that I was no longer in consideration for the role, and that they are unable to provide any feedback due to company policy. I will say that I appreciated the professionalism and timely communication of the recruiter. She did a great job, and the issues with the process are not her fault. My issue is that someone on the curriculum team should have had to review my resume and speak with me BEFORE I spent countless hours on an unpaid performance task. Since the recruiter invited me to the next round right away, I wonder if anyone on the team ever had a chance to look at my resume. Because they can't provide feedback, I don't know if the reason I wasn't selected is because of the quality of my written work or simply because other applicants had better qualifications. To show your applicants that you respect them, please reconsider your interview process. Someone within that position's department should speak with a candidate BEFORE they waste their time on a task that may never get reviewed.
