      Sales Manager Interview

      5 Sept 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Melville, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Lloyd Staffing (Melville, NY)

      Interview

The managing partner Dm'd me on LinkedIn and asked to speak the following day. He sent a teams invite and we had a 40-minute interview. It went really well, it was very conversational and he was really trying to understand my background and how it could translate into the role. Typically the staffing industry is gate kept and I had 0 industry experience but he seemed very drawn to my out-of-industry sales experience. He then had me meet with the SVP who offered to meet in person. I entertained it as I felt as though she was taking me seriously. We had a fantastic interview. Again, she did a deep dive into my background and asked a lot of situational questions. She closed with telling me she would be moving me to the final stage and she'd have her assistant reach out to me with a formal application. Here's where things went south. This application looked like something from the 90s. It was a PDF with a ton of generic questions not suitable for the position I was applying for. Furthermore, it asked A LOT of invasive questions regarding current and previous employment info (Current Manager's name and phone number, address of jobs etc.) I was also asked for references. Then they also sent me paperwork for a background check which I filled out which of course includes my SSN and driver's license info. After all of this, they were silent for 2 weeks which was odd since it took less than a week for them to cold contact me, interview with 2 decision-makers, and immediately fill out and return the application/background check paperwork in the same afternoon of the second interview. The SVP finally responded that they decided to pursue other candidates, highlighting my lack of industry experience as the reason for the decision. What ticked me off was that they reached out to me and knew this from the start. Why bother!? Furthermore what infuriated me was all of that personal information that I would NEVER share with a company unless in the final stages or pre-employment process. I have no idea what they plan on doing with that data but I think it was unprofessional to ask for private info just for them to not even take me seriously.
