The interview process for Computer Technician I and II positions is generally the same as most IT positions within the department.
Candidates complete a written assessment on a laptop consisting of a combination of short-answer and multiple-choice questions. The assessment is timed at approximately 30 minutes. For Computer Technician I positions, the questions are primarily focused on basic troubleshooting, customer service, and common workplace scenarios. Computer Technician II positions include slightly more technical and project-oriented questions, but typically do not delve deeply into advanced topics such as scripting, registry editing, or command-line administration.
Following the assessment, candidates participate in a panel interview, typically consisting of 6–8 staff members. Each panel member asks an open-ended question, and responses are scored individually, generally on a scale of 1–5. Questions often focus on troubleshooting methodology, customer service, communication skills, teamwork, project experience, and how candidates approach real-world technical situations.
Depending on the position, there may also be a hands-on technical task. For higher-level IT positions, this practical exercise is often completed before the panel interview and may be discussed during the interview itself.
All candidates who are invited to interview generally complete the full process, including the written assessment, panel interview, and any applicable hands-on exercises. Final rankings are based on the combined scores from each portion, with the highest-scoring candidate typically receiving the offer.
