      Account Manager Interview

      1 Apr 2026

      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at PowerPay (PA) (Pittsburgh, PA) in Feb 2026

      Interview

Rating: 2/5 Role Interviewed For: External Sales Representative – Healthcare Channel Status: Declined to proceed / Withdrew application Interview Process The process consisted of three rounds spanning several weeks with little to no communication in between. Round 1 – Talent Screen (Julie) Standard qualifying screen. Professional enough, but when I asked about compensation, I was told that wasn't her area to address and was passed along to the next round. Round 2 – Director of Sales (Karen) This is where things got interesting. Karen was transparent — almost surprisingly so — about the fact that she has no sales background herself, which raises an obvious question about the direction of a sales team. When I asked about compensation again, I was told it was "above her pay grade" and that it comes from the CFO. At that point I had been through two interviews and still had zero idea what the role paid. Round 3 – Panel Interview (4 people) This round felt like a culture fit assessment. The panel included two inside account managers, an HR rep, and a sales rep from a different channel. The HR rep was notably disengaged and added little to the conversation. The sales rep asked the bulk of the questions but it became clear during the discussion that much of his outreach strategy relied heavily on cold email — not exactly a sophisticated sales motion. The younger account manager was conversational and genuine. Overall the panel was fine, but again — no discussion of compensation whatsoever. Communication This is where PowerPay really fell short. The talent team's preferred communication method is text message, which felt unprofessional for a formal hiring process. After the panel interview I was left completely in the dark. No next steps communicated, no timeline given. I followed up multiple times over the course of weeks and received variations of "we're still interviewing" each time. Red Flags Three rounds of interviews across multiple weeks with zero compensation discussion despite being asked directly at each stage Director of Sales openly acknowledged having no sales experience This appears to be a brand new channel for the company (healthcare), suggesting they may not have a clear comp structure or go-to-market strategy defined yet Communication was inconsistent and slow throughout After I withdrew my application, I received a text saying they "could no longer consider me further" — as if they were rejecting me after I had already moved on Bottom Line The actual work was intriguing and there were some good people in the building. But a company that can't discuss compensation after three interviews, doesn't know what it wants in a candidate, and takes weeks between touchpoints without proactive communication is not a company that has its act together — at least not in this new channel. If you're considering interviewing here, go in with your eyes open and get the comp conversation handled early or don't bother.
