Recruiter was energetic and answered all my initial questions.
EM was very good, really enjoyed this part of the interview and this is where I really wanted to pursue Red Canary.
Technical portion was a mixed bag: the questions were standard LC with added difficulty as you went along. The good part is you could use any language you wanted, but stuck with Ruby as this was the position. The second half was explaining how things worked technically and some behavior questions. This is where the first red flag came for me; there was an occasional smirk here and there from one person, and the body language shown led me to believe they were disinterested and not that enjoyable to work with in a team. Overall, giving the benefit of the doubt, I was 50/50 if they’d call me back to continue.
Take home assignment was the eye opener. I do appreciate how specific they made the work, and allowed me to use any language I wanted (and they most certainly stressed to ask questions before starting). You get one week to complete the assignment. Reviewing the assignment, and taking with some senior dev mentors, I realized this was not the job for me, called the recruiter and turned down going forward. Zero push back, zero questions, but thanked me for my honesty. Which is a little surprising there were no questions given this late in the process.
All in all, a good process. Just be aware of the assignment and determine if this work is right for you or not. It did not showcase my strengths as a developer and how I was recruited (full stack with React). 1-2 hours tops is OK with the right opportunity, but given I was in the middle of multiple interviews (and personal life) it assumes too much free time. I could only assume what the expectation would be for such a fast growing company. Would much rather pair program actual problems with another developer for 2-3 hours.
