I applied online. I interviewed at SpryPoint (Charlottetown, PE) in June 2024
Interview
I was rejected after the phone screening.
The interviewer didn't read my resume at all.
I stated on the very first line of my resume that I had X years' work experience, but she thought I had (X + 2) years.
After I corrected her, she realized that I wasn't qualified for this position. I guess I was rejected at that very moment, and the subsequent process was just going through the motions.
Next, the questions during the phone screening were meaningless.
I was asked:
1. Introduce yourself.
2. Tell me about a project you worked on.
3. Why are you interested in this position?
4. What about our company attracts you?
For the first two, the answers are on my resume. I was basically asked to read it out loud, but why don't you read through it yourself?
For the last two, I guess they are the silliest questions from job-seekers' POV.
If you are OpenAI or Nvidia, you can ask that and expect answers like "I want to change the world" or "I want to lead human beings to a new era", but for an ordinary start-up who creates software for utilities and offers lower-end salary, the answer from most ppl is just "I need a job".
Some companies cannot take this reality and hope employees see them as their dream jobs. If a candidate tells you that he has been dreaming of creating software for utilities since he was a kid, do you really believe it?
