I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at UNFI (Virginia Beach, VA) in July 2013
Interview
I interviewed with the VP of merchandising and director of HR. The entire interview took just 1 hour. i was expecting more of a challenging experience based on past interviews for jobs at this level. There was somewhat vague insight about the work I would be doing despite my inquiry.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
There were behavior questions on the basic format - tell me about a time you had a difficult customer, how did you respond to team challenges, etc.
Pretty straightforward, basic questions. Seemed uninterested in what I had to say. Seemed robotic. A recruiter connected us, but don’t think I was a fit. They needed a spreadsheet person.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at UNFI in Dec 2022
Interview
Hiring managers did not turn on their videos for the first 10 minutes of the interview, yet I was expected to be on screen. It was uncomfortable. They did not have questions prepared. They asked me if I had questions about the role, which they explained, but they didn't seem prepared to ask me questions.
I applied through other source. I interviewed at UNFI
Interview
They use an SBO (Situation, Behavior, Outcome) style interview. They will give you a list of competencies that are appropriate for the level of job you are seeking. (Make Sound Decisions, Act Strategically, Think Creatively, Manage Execution, Meet Customer Needs, etc). Then you need to give an example that fits the question they ask about that competency.
Example: Meet Customer Needs - Tell me about a time that you had to deal with an unhappy customer.
Then you need to tell them what the situation was - what made the customer unhappy.
What was your behavior or in other words what did you do to calm the customer and correct the situation.
Last what was the outcome - was the customer happy, etc.
