      Senior User Experience Designer Interview

      8 Feb 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Udemy in Jan 2024

      Interview

An interview took place with the recruiter for Udemy Ireland, which started with a standard recruiter call. Later on, the recruiter stated that my application will be forwarded to the hiring manager which translates to an actual designer (e.g. lead, principal..). In time, I received an email from the recruiter with the following brief message - " I am sorry to say we will not proceed with your candidacy for the role at this time." Given the nature of this empty / ambiguous message, I demanded feedback, but they never returned an answer back. For that, I reached to one of the possibly responsible parties via LinkedIn demanding answers particularly since my profile was quite a good fit. I began to believe that discrimination is quite a possibility. In time, I got an email from the recruiter pretty much wanting to have a phone conversation, that way I will know why I got rejected. I made it explicitly clear that I want the rejection communicated in writing, but Udemy is refusing. In other words, it is safe to assume that Udemy is capable at rejecting you based on discriminative grounds other than skills, experience, and personality. If they have nothing to hide, like every ethical company, they will provide feedback in writing. So my suggestion is - stay away from them or deal with them at your own risk.

After a thorough investigation, we can confirm that no evidence of discrimination or policy breach was found. Please understand that our decision not to advance your application beyond the screening stage was based on specific business requirements. We sincerely wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
