To me, customer service isnt just about serving a customer. It's about making sure they are satisfied with my service and helping them when necassary. It can start just by being well presented and polite and asking them about their day. It is important to solve any questions they have so they feel comfortable to come back
".... Like most 14 year old I have worked in fast food for the past 3 years, but after being hidden from the customers and having no interactions, I applied at coles. Coles is a very friendly environment with mature staff willing to help their customers at any given chance and value fresh produce, this is an environment I want to be a part of!
Cigarette prices had just been raised by the British American Tobacco company. Two weeks later the government tax had applied.to so some cigarettes had gone up by $5. A customer was very upset and couldn't understand why we chargedon't so much. I was calm and tried to defuse the situation. I said, "Sir I am very sorry you are upset and you are right, they have risen in price. The government tax has applied and the tobacco company had risen there prices. Our supermarket haven't actually applied any price rises and makes no profit. If you like I can supply you with the number of the tobacco company or the government complaint number but there is nothing we can do to lower the price." He was still angry and wanted to talk to.my manager so I called my manager and continued to serve customers. There wasn't too much more we could do.
A time i remember would be this little old lady that use to come in and could never reach anything so I would often assist her when she shopped. She had a bad memory so.couldn't remember where things were and needed a stroller so struggled to put things in her hands. When she came through the checkout I would call someone to unpack, pack and take out the groceries and she came back every two weeks. None of this is necassary but I liked to do this for the customer so she kept coming back and my manager agreed.
A team needs to work together to achieve a common goal. In my last position at a supermarket we needed more people to work christmas. We had x amount of people serving, x amount of people stocking shelves, x amount just on the floor to help customers Even those the teams are divided, it makes multitasking a whole lot smoother and work was done efficiently.
