We are looking for an
Agronomist to join our dynamic team and lead the way in enhancing the productivity and quality of our
almond orchards located between
Mildura, Robinvale and Swan Hill, Victoria. Could this be the role for you?
About the role
The purpose of this role is to provide specialist agronomic expertise with a
primary focus on pest and disease management, ensuring optimal tree health, yield, and orchard performance across our almond operations.
This is a hands-on role with approximately 70% of time spent in the orchards conducting inspections, monitoring tree health, and collecting field data, with the remaining time supporting analysis, reporting, and planning. The role also provides
secondary support if required across irrigation, spray and nutrition programs, working closely with the Technical Services Manager to ensure appropriate backup support and alignment of agronomic practices.
Key accountabilities
Primary focus: Pest & Disease (P&D) Management
- Lead the monitoring, identification, control and reporting of pests and diseases across almond orchards.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of best practice pest and disease management strategies to optimise yield and tree health.
- Assist in developing and implementing annual pest and disease programs, ensuring effective execution at farm level.
- Provide guidance to on-farm teams to ensure timely and effective pest and disease interventions.
- Conduct regular orchard inspections, collect field data, and analyse trends to proactively manage risks.
Expert Advice & Support
- Provide specialist agronomic advice to the Technical Services and Farm Management teams, with a primary focus on pest and disease management, and additional input across irrigation, nutrition and soil health as required.
- Stay up to date with emerging pest and disease trends, products, and best practices through research, field trials, and industry engagement.
- Deliver training and knowledge sharing to operational teams to uplift capability in pest and disease management.
Controls & Reporting
- Monitor, analyse and report on pest and disease trends, treatment effectiveness, and overall orchard health.
- Support broader agronomic reporting and analysis across farms, contributing insights into yield and performance outcomes.
- Assist the Technical Manager with planning and tracking activities as required.
Additional support (where required)
The role will also provide supporting input across other agronomic programs, including irrigation and nutrition, as required (i.e. if someone is away or there is an increased need in the other area on occasion however the primary focus remains in P&D).
Irrigation & Soil Nutrition
- Support the development and implementation of irrigation and nutrition programs in collaboration with the Technical Services team.
- Monitor orchard conditions and provide recommendations to optimise tree health where required.
Field Operations Monitoring
- Contribute to broader field monitoring activities, including soil data collection and crop inspections.
- Assist in trials and continuous improvement initiatives across orchard operations.
About you
To be considered for this role you should have a bachelor’s degree in agronomy or related fields (ie. horticulture or agricultural science). In addition to:
- 1+ years' experience as an agronomy professional having worked in large-scale outdoor crops and/or orchards.
- Experience with any crop type will be considered, however a sound knowledge of P&D management for outdoor crops is required.
- An understanding of the scientific principles under pinning broad scale, irrigated, horticultural production.
- Proficiency in data analysis and the use of agricultural software and technologies.
- A capability for project and cost management, from concept through to completion.
