    Pros

Good solid multi national company. Responsible miner from all stakeholder viewpoints. High health and safety focus and strong anti bribery & corruption stance.

    Cons

No cons to employment at Rio Tinto which is interested in Win-Win situations for all stakeholders including market competitive rates for employees and contractors.

    Advice to Management

My perception was that the Overseas Project Top Management Team communications, co-ordination and meetings frequency (My Africa operational level experience) could have been better, though not easy given that project team management are often not all in country at the same time.

    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Rio Tinto (London, England (UK)) in March 2014.

    Interview

Connection made through former employer. 2 phone screenings and an in-person office interview. Interview was concerned with both cultural fit and technical knowledge. Employer clearly sought commitment to excellence as well as an ability to define an appropriate work/life balance. Overall, it was very apparent that employer understood the characteristics they were looking for.
