BHP – Why Work With Us?

Attracting and developing our people
We attract, employ and develop people with exceptional skills who share our values and want to make a difference. Throughout our business, we encourage our people to stretch their capabilities and use their functional expertise to help us deliver on our strategy and contribute to our long-term future.

Strengthening our business through the energy of one team
To achieve success in a business that is diversified by commodity, geography and market, we need a workforce that best reflects the communities in which our Assets are located and our employees live. Across our local and global teams, we grow and develop through diversity, creativity, collaboration, energy and encouragement, and by being rewarded for great results.

Meet our people
Our people live and work in some of the world's most unique and dynamic environments. Harnessing the energy of one team, they strive for excellence, are rewarded for high performance and are committed to working with integrity and in ways that are true to Our Charter values.

With a workforce of more than 72,000 employees and contractors working across 90 locations worldwide, BHP’s culture is shaped to support the creation of value from our portfolio. We are committed to investing in our workforce so that our people have the right skills and a healthy culture in which to thrive. We are always seeking talented and enthusiastic people to join our team either now or in the future.

In this together

In 2016, BHP announced an aspirational goal to achieve gender balance by 2025. Our data shows our most inclusive and diverse teams outperform other teams average on safety, culture and productivity. By aspiring for gender balance, we will create a safer, more harmonious culture. We want BHP to be a place where everyone is respected and valued and want it to be an enjoyable and inclusive place to work.

Indigenous Peoples

Many of our global operations are located on or near the traditional lands of Indigenous peoples. We have a profound responsibility to recognise and respect their status as First Peoples. Our Indigenous Peoples Strategy provides a global framework for how we engage with Indigenous peoples. Our strategy includes specific actions to help us achieve our desired outcomes, and also details good practice guidance to help all our people make better decisions

LGBT+ inclusion

At BHP, we want to provide a safe, inclusive and supportive workplace for all. It’s part of bringing your whole self to work. Jasper is BHP’s employee inclusion group for BHP’S lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and others (LGBT+) community and its allies. The group’s name Jasper was inspired by the mineral jasper– known for its unique multi-coloured patterns. This characterisation reflects the rich diversity of the LGBT+ community.
