I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Employsure (Melbourne) in February 2020.

The interview process lasted approx. 2 months, from the survey call to a phone interview then a group interview followed by an in person last round. Throughout the process, my experience was really good, I was completely invested with the company’s mission, vision and values to a point where I knew this opportunity is for me and would be so excited to be a part of their work team. I was able to interview with the panel for the last round and we had a great conversation that lasted for at least an hour. Well at least for me it was a good conversation otherwise why would it last an hour long right? Not necessarily. I was SO eager to get a call back from them and was expecting a really good feedback and perhaps maybe even an offer. However, I get a call from the hiring team after a week and literally even before I picked up my heart was in my throat almost lol, that’s just how excited and nervous I was for this opportunity. Turns out that the panel’s feedback was apparently “opposite” to my experience. They thought I could have spoken more about the company and wanted to know more from me about what Employsure does. I was really taken aback, I just thought to myself that if only they could have asked me about the company and just more about it, I had so much in store from the research I did about the company and what my thoughts were, all positive and in favour of the business. Well there are no second chances right? I did a revision of the interview I had and tried to pick a few hints that might indicate that they didn’t like me, I was able to remember that there were times when I asked questions and one of the members from the panel was “almost” rude in their responses. Don’t want to name them, it’s completely okay and I understand where their behaviour might be coming from. For instance, I asked about whether they would need references from me since my referees are all overseas and would need to let them know prior time, so they replied in a very unkind manner saying leave that to us and it’s not your concern and that they had many contacts overseas. They were rude to all questions I asked and it did put me off, I should have taken that as a hint and should have stopped hoping once I stepped out of the room.

I’m new to the country, new to the city, new to this workforce, every company has their way and everyone is right in their own way. I respect and understand all aspects. Since I have started my journey here, I could be wrong in many ways. Let’s keep trying then..

It definitely really disappointed because I was REALLY hoping for a positive feedback based on the experience I had and my credentials in favour of the program. Maybe their feedback meant good but this is how it came across at least to me.

Now, I have a masters in HR, I know there are many factors that go into short listing, selecting and recruiting a new hire, I understand all the efforts that go into this tiresome process. But I just wanted to share my experience and how I was disappointed from the feedback. The fact that I knew my education and experience align like picture perfect with the company and this role, the hiring team’s feedback did affect me personally. Nevertheless, they saw all ten candidates and I didn’t, I’m sure the best made it through
