I have been working at H E B full-time (More than 8 years)
Totally dominates the market they are in (strong outlook). Takes pride in themselves and the role they serve and in communities. Very flexible work environment with opportunities to grow and write your own ticket if you are good. Extremely good culture dedicated to the customer and the employee (a lot of places don't emphasize the latter). They are quickly evolving beyond the past conservative mindset (which was prevalent in the industry) into more forward thinking, liberal, and eager to change. Medical insurance is quite good (they self insure).
Tends to be very cautious with seeking and adopting new technology. And because the whole organization hasn't matured using modern thinking and ideas, there are some corners of the business that haven't been forced to evolve yet. So leading change in those areas, or through those Leaders, can be challenging.
Advice to Management
Keep doing what you are doing. Things have come a long way and it is only getting better.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at H E B (San Antonio, TX (US)) in December 2009.
This job consisted of a three step interview process. I declined the third interview because the job was based on just commission.
