It’s been an epic ride. From 2 founders in the back of a garage to a talented, dedicated and passionate team of over 280. It started with a big idea and the drive to ‘make it happen’.

hipages was started in a garage in 2004. Our founders, David Vitek and Roby Sharon-Zipser, were dissatisfied with the way you found great quality local businesses and knew that the internet should be making this process a lot easier. They decided to do something about it and created specialist sites in areas they were passionate about, Natural Therapies and Home Improvements. They set about reinventing the directory concept for the internet age. While technology was a big driver to enable this change, our founders had the insight that you needed real service and great people behind that technology to make something great.

Our company has been built on that philosophy and 13 years on our passionate team of 280+ (Sydney & Manila) still focuses on weaving emerging technology with good old fashioned service to constantly innovate the way people get things done. While the company has grown significantly with over 2 Million monthly visitors to our sites and a job being posted on every 37 seconds, we all know that this is just the beginning. The pace of change in the online world keeps us energised to deliver the best possible products and service.

This is an exciting period of growth for us, we have the backing of a great partner in News Corp Australia as we continue to emerge as an industry leader. We are fast on our way to becoming a household name and are determined to make life easier for homeowners and tradies Australia wide.

We don’t just leave people feeling like we’ve done a good job – we leave them feeling inspired, and knowing they’re in safe hands.

Our Culture

We are a fun group of people who work hard to achieve and play hard to celebrate. Our culture demands respect and we are an open and honest group of people from top down. Our open office makes collaboration with everyone really easy and aligns to our flat structure, everyone is empowered to get on with the job at hand. Our team are down-to-earth and our friendliness and energy is constantly praised. As soon as you walk through our reception area into our office you feel the ‘buzz’ which is infectious.

We’re a medium sized start-up, meaning we’re big enough to have leading edge systems and tools but small enough so that everyone is able to directly impact our product and customers. Free from bureaucracy and politics, we get to ‘make it happen’ everyday.

Diversity & Inclusion

At hipages, we are really proud of our 50/50 gender diversity (which is almost unheard of in our industry) and we appreciate and welcome all differences. We believe our diverse and inclusive work culture greatly contributes to our success as a business and we understand that diversity in thinking plays a critical role in innovation and aligning to our customers experience.

One of our biggest learnings so far on our journey to be D&I thought leaders in the tech industry, is the importance of simply “understanding”. When we take the time to understand we are more accepting of each other, our differences and our backgrounds.

Our people come first. We want every employee to come into work as their true genuine self and most importantly, feel happy, be heard, respected and valued. We conduct regular employee pulse surveys followed by action teams who develop recommendations and oversee their implementation. We are a fast growing business and we know we need to be proactive in ensuring that our diverse and inclusive culture is not lost as we grow.

We want to take part in the wider societal push for gender diversity and increasing the pool of female talent, especially in the technology industry. This is why we offer an annual scholarship specifically for women studying STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths). We also have a Head of Diversity and Inclusion, Adz is one of our female engineers who dedicates 20% of her time ensuring we continue to push the diversity envelope and help realise real change.

    I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at hipages (Sydney) in March 2017.


    From the first telephone screening to the end, the overall process was very pleasant. They were very friendly, laid back but still professional. The questions were quite intensive and thorough which gave me a lot of confidence in that the company has clear vision and direction. They made me feel relaxed and set me at ease. It was certainly a different experience from other interviews I had been through as I felt that the company was focussed on team work and obviously had a genuine interest in their employees.
