I worked at AECOM full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Really enjoyed working here, people were always great to work with, hard working and dedicated to doing a great job. Big company so lots of projects and side projects / initiatives to explore. Opportunity to connect and collaborate with people across the globe. Offices are really nice although that does vary, flexible working arrangements mean you can work from home and set your own hours (in accordance with your... teams requirements). Company is pretty happy to let you move between different projects and teams if you’re interested in another area. Great place to grow if you’re in a core discipline (ie this company is a civil engineers dream). Management is approachable and doing their best to listen to staff. Opportunities to work on the biggest projects in industry.

    Cons

9 box performance system can be limiting for career progression, general corporate politics, tendency to pigeonhole staff, lack of office morale / communication although this may be inherent in an engineering environment, I found a lot of people seemed pretty unhappy / plateaued within their jobs. Work life balance is entirely dependent on your team and manager, some people have a rough time but I always found it... pretty relaxed.

    I worked at AECOM full-time

    Pros

    - Nice office and location - Chance to work on big projects - Some of the middle management people are great at leading and supportive

    Cons

    - Lots of overtiming but no reward, organisation takes advantage of employee essentially giving their time for free to work on projects - Pay freezes and very small incremental pay increases each year due to upper management not being able to properly manage or patch up project cost losses and departments in the red, so all the underlings pay for it instead - for a massive 'international corporation', there's not... a whole lot of flexibility or opportunity to work on projects overseas, different country offices seem to be quite segregated. - the quality of work produced is really dependent on each team's or individual's values, contrary to common opinion that a big brand / organisation is reliable and produces a high standard of work. It is actually subject to which department or team is working on the projects, and unfortunately not aligned across the entire office or organisation.

    Pros

Count them on your fingers!!! Opportunities to network but no time!

    Cons

Admin managers are your worst nightmare! Salary is not competitive, no chance to provide constructive feedback to management, high staff turnover, micromanaging boss, no flexibility in work timing or location, high stress situations and no handover when other employees go on leave.

    Advice to Management

Provide regular opportunities to staff to rate or provide feedback on managers

    I worked at AECOM full-time

    Pros

AECOM had a reputation for attracting the best talent. Indeed, the co-workers are excellent.

    Cons

The management structure promotes inexperienced self-promoters into leadership roles outside their competency. This impacts morale, and limits career opportunity.

    Advice to Management

Recruit experience into team leadership roles.

I worked at AECOM full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Resources are endless if you really need them, diverse teams.

    Cons

Where to begin...let's start with the obvious gender enforcing going on...if you're female and willing to do a bit of extra work (means going to endless trainings and meetings on how to be a leader!)...you're on your way to the top, guaranteed! I have never seen more incompetent people being put on such demanding high positions as in AECOM, purely based on gender and being part of the "group". You absolutely cannot... be a design manager with zero experience in the actual design, right? Well, you can in AECOM, fake it until you make it people are most welcome here. There is not evem subtle bragging here...people openly brag how awesome they are and how they will be promoted to higher positions, I have never seen this anywhere in my career! Once they loose couple of tenders, cutting heads begins, they fired some of the most loyal personnel, people with over 20 years of work history in the company...way to treat such people AECOM! And of course as a result of that, many more people left annoyed and all of a sudden some teams lost most crucial members in matter of weeks.

    Advice to Management

Since AECOM has the best management in the world they don't need advice how to run multi billion business, well in fact in some offices you wonder how is it possible that the whole business is still running with such incompetent people running it.
