    Pros

A very good working environment with a supportive and encouraging management team to enable employees to develop professionally. An endless amount of opportunities due to the wide range of disciplines across the organisation and diversity of projects delivered by the organisation.

    Cons

A very large company with a complex organisational structure, which can be difficult to understand.

    Advice to Management

Continue to attract talented employees and continue to develop the organisation.

I worked at AECOM full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Many of the technical people are industry leaders, and they are supported by strong junior and intermediate people. New hires are usually excellent. Work environment is excellent, with good policies around flexible hours and taking leave. Many opportunities to work on major projects and learn a lot.

    Cons

Centrally controlled business planning, with a hierarchy that demands obedience. Very focused on short term company financial performance. Model for promotion and payrise requires employees to work above their pay grade for 12-36 months before being rewarded.

    Advice to Management

Trust your team leaders, empower them to manage their team, hold them accountable over a time period of several quarters, not several weeks. Listen to your employees.

    Pros

Might look ok on your CV when you eventually leave Aecom is 10/10 at making people feel awful. If you love feeling low, demoralized and on the verge of a breakdown, then aecom is for you! There is an unlimited number of staff who can slap you down. This feature oc aecom is unrivaled - just too good. Aecom is terrific at promoting incompetent people and ignoring gaping serious behavioural issues. If you're a psychopath...

    Cons

Terrible oppressive environment and culture Weak management that can't be trusted Useless incompetent HR Disregard for a safe work environment Ridiculous expectations Finger pointing and blame Losing your sanity

    Advice to Management

Try an acting career - you can do it! I've seen it in action - acting oblivious and pretending something will be done when there is ZERO intention ever! Amazing skills. Well done!

I worked at AECOM full-time for more than a year

    Pros

AECOM provides a fantastic working environment, and go to great lengths to ensure that the office is clean and professional. This is not a common aspect of working in engineering. It definitely contributes to a sense of pride in your work. The performance reviews are taken rather seriously and everyone is treated with respect. There is decorum that I haven't seen at many other employers. People are keen to work together...

    Cons

The salary is underwhelming, which is probably because of the high overheads associated with a clunky, chunky management system that is always evolving and growing! Making redundancies whilst hiring people with inflated titles and not much measurable benefit to the business. Slow to acknowledge hard work, and let good people get frustrated and leave, rather than nurture and promote from within.

    Advice to Management

Settle on a lean, effective management structure, engage and reward your staff. For the most part, this is a great organisation. Do not let that fantastic reputation die while navigating a difficult economic environment!

    Pros

big company brand, nice working environment.

    Cons

Watch out management trying put project risks on you. Bad resource planning and management. Small circle formed within the team if you are not the mate. High pressure on utilisation requirement but there is no work. People who have no work got to stay as they are mates of the boss. High utilised people got the axed. Bosses hired mates using 457K visa while local engineers have no work to fill timesheets at the same...

    Advice to Management

Go utilised your resource well before hiring your mates in. I have never seen a company keep hiring people while there is not enough workload.

    Pros

Great people, friendly work environment, cared about employees well being

    Cons

Confused vision and mission, too many chiefs and too few indians

    Advice to Management

Allow younger employees to take up more challenging roles, that are literally out of their depth of experience and not be so conservative. That's the only way the new managers are born, otherwise the same senior managers keep making all the tough decisions and leading teams. Change is good.

    I worked at AECOM full-time

    Pros

    Nice office, that is all!

    Cons

Never seen so much backstabbing among staff. For example, an admin staff decides she is going to change career and everybody is nice to her while she is there. The moment she has gone to Uni on one of her days off, all her so called friends are calling to drop her because the admin duties are not getting completed. Suggestions of getting someone else on her days off are met with no, get rid of her and just get one full...

    Advice to Management

Karma is a wonderful thing - what you reap and allow to carry on under your noses, will come back around eventually. When you're on the receiving end of this from those more senior than you, I hope it's ten times worse than that which you allowed to be inflicted. I'm pleased to see recent mass retrenchments and cancellation of graduate intake. You have done these people a huge favor. While it may not be a nice experience...
