I worked at AIG full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    Great people, good work-life balance.

    Cons

The firm is a constant fire drill of one existential crisis to another. There is no career track and zero promotion outside of knowing senior management and/or living in Greenwich/etc. As a result, staff are demotivated and end up not working. The firm compensates by hiring more people.

    I worked at AIG full-time

    Pros

The low level and mid level workers try their best under horrible working conditions. Many truly care about making a difference and it was an extreme pleasure working with them while trying to make a positive difference. The amount of hours that salaried people are putting in, not to save their jobs but to get their work done, is ridiculous. But they do what they feel they need to do anyway.

    Cons

Senior management is a disaster. Favoritism and brining in their cronies really deflates the motivation of the workers and middle managers that have been there and attempting to do their jobs. In IT it is more important to please senior management and suck up than to support the business community and make their jobs easier. I would never recommend this company to anyone. Any positive financial numbers are played with to make it look like progress is being made.

    I worked at AIG

    Pros

Good salary, professional working environment. Good people

    Cons

Subject to endless corporate reorganisation, everyone insecure. Senior management are frequently only in position for a short time, so each new appointment results in major change.

I have been working at AIG full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There is nothing good about AIG.

    Cons

No salary increase, no respect, no progress, no vision. Profits are shared among senior management and losses are distributed among the other employees.

I worked at AIG for more than a year

    Pros

Good starting pay (although they will never give you indication of future pay growth) Good PTO

    Cons

    - Tacit racism and sexism is pervasive in this company. But what do you expect from a giant corporation that played a huge role in 2008? Any efforts for underrepresented groups are cursory at best and really only serve to make senior leadership (overwhelmingly male caucasians) look better. Direct, middle managers could care less about nurturing young, diverse talent as they are pressured to only care about the bottom line. There is a clear dissonance here that will not be solved any time soon. - From my own experience I have seen minority talent bullied out of their jobs and have faced numerous 'comments' about my ethnicity from coworkers, this place is disgusting. - Diverse, but only at entry level. There is a HUGE problem with retaining young talent in this company. Less than a year and over half of my year's cohort have already left the company. - It's insurance. The culture and people are outdated. They joke about how no one grows about wanting to do insurance... and yes, they're right. There's a reason no one wants to do insurance. - Incredibly inefficient processes. Big corporation, big bureaucracy. Senior management has no idea how actual processes work in the field and will institute huge, strategic changes within a few months of the last shift, negating any slow progress already made. - Not going to waste any more time on this so in conclusion... ---- If you're young, passionate, driven, smart, a minority, a woman, do not come here-----
