I have been working at Airbus full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good benefits and good variety of international commercial and technical work. Enjoy in particular the international and multicultural opportunities I have been given and the breadth of technology from low tech civil work to high end IT

    Cons

Large organisations process and procedures and inter-departmental rivalry , In particular the inter departmental frictions can have a serious negative impact on business, projects ad moral

    Advice to Management

Focus upon driving team work focus and following through on company values driving the values to all levels of the organisation

I have been working at Airbus full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Standard week is 35 hours. Flexible hours start between 6am and 1pm and work a minimum of 5.25 hours plus 45 min lunch Monday to Thursday and 4 hours no lunch on Friday. Some home working possible but varies job to job, depends on role and manager. Good benefits can 'buy' and extra weeks holiday. Childcare vouchers, cycle to work scheme.

    Cons

Set up and operation is poor. Allocation of budgets, random cutting of budgets, booking codes a nightmare. Finance dictate bad ways of operating, every department used a different tool and 2 or 3 departments all thinking they are running the budget for a project... No control, ridiculous amounts of time lost to just working out what's going on with the money when it should all be transparent. A lot of managers are... more in keeping with the 1950s than 2010s. Not always clear how to progress. HR are hopeless

    Advice to Management

Revolution required. Do away with booking codes, they are a joke anyway. Fix Finance any money to be run through one tool everyone with read access.

    Pros

Hugely interesting projects. Proud employees. Opportunities for varied career path Great benefits, working conditions, holidays (40+ days) Relaxed culture

    Cons

No credit given to technical career path Same pay structure for entire company, unsatisfactory incentives Too many project managers/integrators Slow to react to change, slow decision making Low responsibility / slow career progression Toulouse centric

    Advice to Management

Take more risks , drive the industry from the front Make Aerospace exciting again Change the HR processes

    No Opinion of CEO

I have been working at Airbus for less than a year

    Pros

People are generally nice Relaxing work environment: flexible hours, no pressure work (if you are in supporting function) - you can balance a very good healthy lifestyle Good benefits for employees (and their family) Nice campus Business is going on well

    Cons

Corporate jargon everywhere: people say 'big words', talk about 'big things', but actually they don't mean anything If you are in supporting functions (communications, HR, IT, etc.) your job is not challenging, most of the time repetitive, and does not offer a lot of growth opportunities The culture is too 'corporate': formal, distance, you should always look 'busy', and appear in a certain way to get ahead... Complicated and inefficient organisational structure: expect people with complicated and long job titles that don't really ring the bell

    Advice to Management

Top management is, in a way, completely absent in employee's life. All communication is written for, standard, formal

I have been working at Airbus for less than a year

    Pros

The people here are outstanding. This is a true team environment. People are respectful and uplifting while housing world-class intellects who are incredibly humble.

    Cons

The North American company needs more autonomy from its corporate headquarters.

    Advice to Management

None. The benefits and perks here are second to none. Management is incredibly respectful and this is a mentor environment, everyone is willing to help the lowest level worker.

"Great working environment but too much politics"

Current Contractor - Project Performance Manager in Filton, England

    Neutral Outlook
    Approves of CEO

I have been working at Airbus for more than 3 years

    Pros

You can have great work-life balance, flexible working hours, flexible working location and the new aerospace park buildings are an excellent environment to work in. There are a lot of smart and interesting people that you may work with and many interesting projects. For internal employees there are a lot of training opportunities and a lot of perks.

    Cons

Politics, politics, politics. Most middle and senior managers are so involved into politics that it feels like the company is paralysed by it. There is big disconnection between the central team in France and the UK and it feels like a parent-kid relationship. There is a lot of dead weight and there are people sitting there doing nothing for weeks or even months. Due to the nature of the business there is a lot... red-tape and the bureaucracy can be burdensome at times. There is no much opportunity for career progression in the area of project management, especially if you are a contractor. In some cases contractors are being treated as b-class citizens in comparison to internal employees and there is a high-turnover.

    Advice to Management

You need to focus more on management and leadership and reduce politics in the organisation. Hire more people knowledgeable in management and put them into key places.

  10. "All you need to brings value to the business (i.e. Airbus, Cassidian, Astrium, Eurocopter)"

    StarStarStarStarStar
Current Employee - Project Manager in Bristol, England

I have been working at Airbus full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Lots of opportunities are provided to research engineers and corporate roles such as governance and management, process methods and tools development. Resources are available to explore lots of different technologies. You can work and collaborate more easily with all EADS business units and beyond corporate boundaries.

    Cons

Don't forget to get back to business units once being in corporate projects. Restructuring of business units affects the projects of corporate, but this is normal for any organization!

    Advice to Management

Excellent environment to learn political aspects of inter-corporate affairs
