I have been working at Ally Fashion part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The girls you meet in store! I have built great bonds with some of these team members and become good friends outside of the job. These relationships are really important when you get continuously screwed by the company. If you can make it in this company, you'll be able to work majority of other retailers. But be sure to work on your customer service skills...

    Cons

I've worked in retail for +12 years and have seen a lot during my time. I've been a causal through to SM for numerous businesses including High-end brands... Ally is not all bad, but below is an honest account of what you'd get if you worked there... * Minimal communication, RM is never around or answers phone calls or helps with difficult customer situations. Staff training is BASIC and is done by peers. This is difficult and frustrating when different regions and staff have had completely different training and uphold different company polices. * There is absolutely NO consistency through any level of management. If you actually have management! My store has been without a SM for +6 months with the RM not bothering to hire, this including over the Christmas trade. Not a company to work for if your after internal progression, 90% of time they hire externally. * H/O and RM more than happy to point out negatives and hit you with written warnings. Almost never hear thank you or well done; unless you're happy with a general positive quote via a generic morning email. If your store has cameras, be sure they have been checking footage to see what your actually doing... Welcome to Big Brother!! * Sale benefits and discounts are average compared to other competitors. Incentives are so hard to reach that in the end staff don't bother trying. Budgets are also extremely inconsistent and way above an achievable goal, lowering team morale. * There is NO Work/Life Balance!!! You have to work every holiday period/ school holidays no negotiations... I have been with the business almost 2 years and have never been able to take annual leave and I am certainly not the only one. * There is so much to do task wise in store, that you do end up giving poor customer service. Might be better in a small/quiet store, but with excess amounts of stock to do, markdown lists and VM, Double handling is the name of the game. H/O requirements and decisions often changing... Most likely you'll get a task done and then have to re-do. *Finally, don't expect the business to actually care about you as a person. You are just another employee that they can churn out and replace. I've watched +10 girls come and go in less than 2 years as well as 3 managers.

I worked at Ally Fashion full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - Peers and colleagues were great people. I really enjoyed working with and getting to know them. - The office location is close to transport and food services.

    Cons

    - Extreme micromanagement - Lot's of emotional manipulation of staff. - There's no follow-through by senior management. - There's no ownership of the business operations from senior management. - No autonomy. - Lot's of lies and false promises about benefits and career development.

I worked at Ally Fashion full-time for less than a year

    Pros

There are no Pros at all

    Cons

I couldn't tell you anyone friendly, the actual 'management' training was a joke I wouldn't consider hanging clothes everyday management training. Be prepared to stay back 30-60 minutes after your shift without being paid every single day! Not to mention there is no hope of having a work-life balance, from my first day I worked 8 days in a row- and if you study and need a day off you will have to work 8 or more days in a row since it's not there set roster. I was hired as a Store Manager and told I'd have 1 week of training (they hurried me to start straight away), and then proceeded to assign me to different stores every week after my one week of training with no date of moving to my store (all in convenient stores as I was already travelling and hours I didn't agree to).
