I have been working at Alsco full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Located right on Chatswood station, Decent reasonable management that do listen and are realistic with requirements of people, flexibility in working hours, a wide range in IT Tech to work with.

    Cons

Dress code is pretty conservative ( admittedly this is gradually changing ) Multiple business units you need to be across

    Advice to Management

Try and keep the people you have where possible because the company needs far more specific internal business knowledge than other places.

    Doesn't Recommend

I worked at Alsco full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Large, multinational company with long history in Australia. New Regional General Manager is good, supportive and has high ambitions.

    Cons

Old technique in Production, low wages and salaries, company does want to achieve too many goals within too short time (as in the last decade not much improvement has been done...). Un-supportive Branch General Managers. (Non) - attendance of Delivery Drivers (sign of low engagement with the company) and that it is tolerated.

    Advice to Management

Pay more, set long term goals and accept that there will be worse numbers on the way to achieve them.

    I worked at Alsco

    Pros

Appropriate amount of deliveries per day are good to start of with and the amount of items per delivery is also good to start with

    Cons

Deliveries increase unacceptably as you gain experience as they begin placing new customers in your run on a weekly basis

    Advice to Management

    Pay increase

I worked at Alsco full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    Autonomous. Not micromanaged. Car.

    Cons

Laundry industry is a bit depressing. Product isn't exciting. Let down so many times by the service department resulting in angry customers and lost commission. Too much can go wrong out of your control that can lose your commission. Low base salary

    Advice to Management

Try something new, support fresh ideas

I have been working at Alsco full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Lots of upward mobility, great culture, many awesome people to work with. GMs in many branches will be retiring soon, leaving room for new blood. You will learn many great things about managing a team and business that will come in handy down the road. They were very up front: "the District Manager role is the most difficult position in this company." Can confirm. It is also the first level of management. Delivery... staff (RSR) are paid commission, not hourly, and can go home whenever deliveries are complete. Great pay/work ratio. Excellent training for this role. Almost all RSR staff at my branch have been there 20+ years. A healthy, organized person with people skills will do very well here.

    Cons

As a manager, you will work long hours, consistently. Stress is there, and you will at times be asked to cover delivery routes on top of your duties. might be for a day or months, depending on staffing. Pay is not great, time off will be almost impossible to get unless booked months in advance, and even then the odds arent good. One sick person can cancel your vacation (possibly). They try not to do that though.... As an RSR, the physical part is heavy. There is a lot to know and be on top of, as these are your customers, not just random delivery stops. Good or bad, the RSR is accountable for the service given to customers.

    Advice to Management

Create a detailed training program for managers, and follow it. Praise publicly, correct privately. Give more time off, and pay for the work being provided. Especially extra work, added tasks, or covering a route for longer periods of time. Business is business, but remember staff stay where they feel valued. Any time there is a vacancy, make it a high priority to fill the role. Don't let it linger.
