I worked at American Apparel part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great staff discount, generally your co-workers are nice and of similar age (18-30), pretty laid-back for retail with no strict KPI targets. Overall a nice job to have to support yourself when you're studying.

Pay is average at best, even for retail. There is no way for promotion unless you're in the right place at the right time. Stupid new little rules (no sneakers one week, no facial hair another week) are always introduced and then changed or removed. Management from LA visit regularly and many of them are clueless, inept and cause havoc. Saying that, many are very capable.
