I worked at Appen for less than a year

    Pros

The payment is good and depending of the project you can earn a nice money

    Cons

The process to be hired is very, very but very slow and they always took too long to answer an e-mail and they show on the website that they have new job opportunities to apply for but I never had an answer about months regarding the job offers.

I worked at Appen for more than 3 years

    Pros

The pay rate for the work is often good, usually above minimum wage. The work was often easy to grasp and they usually provided a decent amount of guidelines and tips to help you out. A lot of flexibility when it comes to scheduling out your work and when you can do it. I was able to work on multiple projects over the past couple years and I was offered new projects on a regular basis (though the project offers/opportunities largely disappeared by 2019).

    Cons

Work is not guaranteed or reliable, I was on a project that kept running out of work for months before they finally shut it down and took everyone off of it. They can terminate your contract at any time, sometimes without an actual reason. Management is usually horrible at communication - it sometimes takes weeks to hear back about a simple issue or you will finally receive replies that are just simple/vague responses. Company seems to have gone downhill over the past couple years, both in terms of work availability and how they treat their contractors. No opportunities for actual advancement/professional development.
