I worked at Au Pair in America full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

ability to travel and visit new places.

    Cons

Humiliating, underpaid, stressful, unappreciated, invisible job. The reality is that according to the agreement au pair will get for sure 195,75$ a week, room and education paycheck 500$. Thats all for max. 45 h a week.

    Advice to Management

This programme should be advertised as a working programme. Dates of the day of work and last one should be noted in the agreement (it's not included in the papers). Au pairs need to have higher stipend so it would cover FOOD, transportation public or gas, charged phone from XXI century 50$ for 3 months for calls so the au pair could come back by ordering uber when the public transportation will be closed. Councellors should visit au pair with the HF at least 4 times during the year and having a conversation with both of them asking both sides Are they satisfied from the programme? There should be also some au pair work assessment as well as family assessment. Wisiting au pair in HF house in the first week of the programme is not enough to have clear picture of what is going on in the house during the whole year. There should be more support for the au pairs. If it supposed to be cultural exchange program I councellors should focus of events so the HF and au pair could together participate.

    Pros

The organization did make sure that their Au Pairs did not work overtime or were being taken advantage of by certain families, which was great.

    Cons

The lady responsible for the Au Pair's in my area only cared about the host families, not so much about the Au Pair's. So it was a bit frustrating when one of us had a problem.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work and continue to treat your assets as well as your liabilities.
