I worked at Australian Red Cross Blood Service part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Pay, benefits are great. Co workers were like family as I was there 7 years. The company is improving slowly.

    Cons

Supervisor's lack of experience / support from upper management. Supervisor and worker relationships are poor.

    Advice to Management

Communication between management and supervisor needs addressing. The back lash from 2013 - 2014 company's management restuctoring is still present therefore there is a lot of confusion between supervisor 's as to what is their role and what is management role. Ie supervisors trying take on management duties, HR and "return -to-work plans" without the training, experience and support. This issue needs addressing...

I worked at Australian Red Cross Blood Service part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The pay and entitlements are very decent with the added bonus that you are working in an organisation that helps save lives

    Cons

There can be quite a bit of pressure to get donations quickly, and with KPIs on how quickly you can get a needle into someone and the monitoring of your success rate, it can be stressful.

    Advice to Management

Be aware more supportive and also realistic in your expectations.

I worked at Australian Red Cross Blood Service part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Salary and donors are the best of the job.

    Cons

Toxic environment. Management has no people's skills. Focusedon KPI's,will crack the wip on staff. Lack of clinically trained staff. Tedious, repetitive job. Not a challenging job.

    Advice to Management

Please hire clinically trained staff. Donors are not cows to be milked, you have to look after them. Also, stop allowing bully environment.

I have been working at Australian Red Cross Blood Service full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great co-workers Interesting and varied work Pride in ‘saving lives’

    Cons

Bullying is rampant - a practiced skill for those in senior management. Managers gaslight and torment anyone they don’t like or are threatened by but will be supported by policies that favour them over their lower ranked employees. People & Culture (HR) are mandated to protect senior management while deceiving employees Absolute ‘boys club’ in middle management - will point to a lone female manager to pretend this...

    Advice to Management

Why bother, they won’t listen. The reputation of the Blood Service is quickly declining and if you don’t right the ship, it will sink. It’s only a matter of time before there are incidents that can’t be swept under the rug and the whole thing will come undone. Radical change is needed right now.

    Pros

Salary packaging is a very good bonus and discount on Corporate private health fund good too.

    Cons

    Micromanagement; subversive bullying; toxic environment

    Advice to Management

Respect and believe your long serving and loyal staff. Most donors are terrific but not all donors tell the truth. Stop telling potential staff and current staff you have great work life balance to offer. No longer true.
