They have a system called “note to file” that they don’t give you any warning about. It is essentially a written complaint on the managers part, about you, and you have no way of knowing or improving. I got “note to filed” for telling the new manager I had an arrangement with the previous manager for my schedule. This system doesn’t allow growth due to the fact that you don’t know what you did wrong or get notified that you even have a note to file. You aren’t allowed to sit, and are expected to stand at the very front the entire shift with no breaks and (most of the time) no actual work to do. They are watching on the cameras to catch you doing anything else to reprimand you for. The openers have a task list of about 5 items, and of course openers are normally managers only. The closers have a task list of about 15 procedures. You aren’t allowed to stay after closing to complete the tasks otherwise you get in trouble. However, customers are allowed to keep you after to tan, which obviously requires an almost entire restart to the closing task list which involves cleaning etc. Some customers purposefully attempt to keep employees after closing. As employees you are required to write down a detailed exchange and send it immediately to HR and your manager. The owner mostly wants to maintain the customers. Working with multiple employees there, we knew that if we brought something to the owner or HR about a customer, they would note to file us and give the customer a discount even with multiple witnesses. They would even rehire employees who had interpersonal issues and altercations with other employees, negatively impacting the work environment and making it hostile. Everything you say can be used against you. They simply take you and your employee profile at face value.
