Avaloq is only focused on Zurich. It has unrealistic expectations of its client-side employees.

I have been working at Avaloq full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Career opportunities increasing at Edinburgh site as the numbers of staff grows. There has been a push to adopt Agile methodologies in the recent past.

    Cons

Still a Zurich-centric organisation even though software development centres have been opened in Edinburgh and Manila. Company should be moving more jobs to these hubs to reduce the cost of production.

I have been working at Avaloq full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The company tries hard to create a good work-life balance for its employees, despite the longer working hours. With flexi-time and remote working it's easy to fit work around your schedule. The Edinburgh office is a nice place to work, with adjustable desks, lots of natural light, a roof garden, yoga, free fruit, decent coffee machines and lots of cake. In terms of spending the company is also very generous - a budget for education is allocated to each employee, there are expenses-paid trips to the Zurich office, and any initiative to improve workplace culture is given a fair hearing. It's not a surprise then that the Edinburgh Office is a happy place to work: everyone is friendly and helpful.

    Cons

It's difficult to separate from the Zurich office - some things would be better in Edinburgh if more freedom was given.

"Software driven company with good growth prospects"

I have been working at Avaloq full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Full of skilled and motivated people Half flex-time, core hours 10-4 but can be switched around in the week Company spends a lot of effort in the beginning on training, even including a few weeks at the head office in Zurich Software development is the core business, so opportunities for promotion in technical roles e.g. senior developer or software architect New office: raise-able desks to standing height (big plus in a desk-job profession), pool table in common area and expensive coffee machines At present the company has very good prospects, a lot of sales successes and a lot of future work and business to come.

    Cons

40 hour working week, bit high for Edinburgh, though flexi-time does mitigate this somewhat (in any other job you'd work extra hours at times without being able to get it back the next day) Swiss culture takes some time getting used to. Google translate often needed for German/French/Spanish issues/specifications etc. Overall benefits are good but pay for Edinburgh is a bit flat. Company seems to just try and meet "market rate".
