I worked at Avaya full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Fellow employees were awesome to work with. Enjoyed the technology. Was able to work from home.

    Cons

Immediate management was out-of-touch with their team. Seemed to just go through the motions; follow metrics without taking time to engage in details. When it came time for a head-count layoff, I was simply read to from a pre-written email. No empathy. No connection.

I worked at Avaya full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Avaya is (still) full of some really talented people in engineering across the globe. In general the work/life balance is great and Avaya has some great benefit options.

    Cons

In general the company is lost on direction. New leadership is rotating in-and-out on a 6-12 month basis, constantly changing the company strategy so nothing really gets executed. As new management joins, middle management focuses on the battle for relevance, leading to a constant power struggle. Budget either gets cut or spread across so many things that nothing actually gets a serious (needed) boost. The CEO (Jim) is great during crisis as he knows how to cut, but seems to struggle to provide any vision. There is a general lack of leadership and those who do stand up and show leadership either get killed by the constant changes in strategy (new SVP's) or by any of the staff functions (Fin/HR/IT/...) as those functions will not allow managers to really move the needle. It is hard to find any people willing to stand up against the company culture, many rules/redtape and inertia, to really help Avaya forward. Its sad to see so much potential wasted.
