    I worked at BAE Systems USA (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Great location, friendly staff, plenty of training opportunities. The Lead-in-Fighter facility is modern and well equipped. They are always looking for opportunities to expand the business which provides many employment opportunities.

    Cons

    Due to them being a defence contractor, wages can be at the lower end of the scale for certain roles.
    They will load you up with work and not reward your efforts.

    Advice to Management

    Salary reviews need to actually mean something. The current system does not work. When you give people additional responsibilities outside their PD, the remuneration needs to increase inline with the additional work, otherwise people don't feel valued and leave (like I did.

    Pros

    Variety of engineering work on offer

    Cons

    Lot's of top down cumbersome and ineffective process. Upper management, in Australia and the UK but less so in the USA, is still very much tied the 'command and control' model of management. They need to listen to the people they employed with skills more.

    Advice to Management

    There is no point employing quality engineers if you aren't going to listen to them.
    If you think you need a new process. Then you need to look for causes not symptoms. Trying to force an ineffective paper based methodology in an environment where paper and digital solutions sit side by side and poorly integrated is a recipe for disaster.

    Pros

    Many good people and some very interesting projects.

    Cons

    Management is obsessively political and do not gain concensus with the drivers of their core-business.

    Advice to Management

    Listen, ask and consider the views of many. Do not only focus on what does the next person up the food chain want to hear. It creates vast gaps between what is reported and what is actually happening and ultimately translates to unhappy customers.

    There is no point in managing cost and schedule so closely when you do not understand the scope.

    Judgement is OK.

    Pros

    Really chill environment, managers are very approachable, 9/80 work schedule so you get a three day weekend every other week, lots of opportunity to move around into different roles, competitive pay

    Cons

    Not very outstanding benefits or perks, work is slow at times, no free coffee which is a standard most places
