I have been working at BAE Systems USA full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Large company so there is room to move around if you are proactive In general there is good work/life-balance without a lot of pressure to build the business - unless you are in business development Wide differences among business units so you can have a variety of experiences within one company.

    Cons

Large company can be very difficult to navigate unless you have the right sponsorship Functional offices are often understaffed/over-worked.

I have been working at BAE Systems USA full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - Better benefits than previous subcontractors, including shift bonus pay for undesirable hours - Great leadership, actually met and began working with me on circumstances special to me that may affect my ability to work certain hours/days. - Much better pay than my previous employer in the same field, actually made an effort to retain my experience. - Ability to progress within the company based on desire and performance, and actually promotions and raises along with it. Previous salaries seemed to be established on a whim, and took little influence from performance. - Large company with expansive relocation opportunities.

    Cons

    - No part-time positions available, at least in my office. But this is not unique to BAE and is how the contract works. - Little flexibility with shift scheduling and rotations, no significant ability to define your own hours. Again, not unique to BAE but to the contract.

I have been working at BAE Systems USA full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Pay is based on location There are multiple ways to communicate Colleagues and senior employees are always willing to help when they have spare time You're not expected to know everything on Day 1

    Cons

Everyone is busy, so it can be hard to set meetings Tracking down information can be difficult because BAE is a large company, and only certain people know certain answers There's a lot to learn and your first few months will feel like you're drinking from a fire

I worked at BAE Systems USA full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

401K match. Good job out of school, but don't be a lifer.

    Cons

It is a large company, and has many of the problems associated with being a large company. I got to work on quite a bit of stuff while I was there, but I left due to incompetent management. The type of people who get promoted to management at BAE are people who suck at being engineers. This would be ok, if these people did not have a vote in technical decisions. The problem is, their vote overrules intelligent engineers technical decisions. Management does not care about the customer, and has no interest in making the customer happy. The IT department strangles engineering, and makes it difficult to get things done. The only way to enact change is through a machiavellianism approach which is done by getting your "risk" on the risk list, and then provide the solution. Another issue is how contracts are written. Basically, BAE considers System Engineers to be good and pays them too much, but in actuality, only about 5-10% of the system engineers actually generate value, the other system engineers are useless, and who's sole purpose it to charge their labor for doing nothing in order to make the company profit.

I have been working at BAE Systems USA full-time

    Pros

Pay isn't too bad, hours are good (40/week).

    Cons

Their best medical plan is a high deductible plan... medical is horrible. They're a large company and you're nothing but an employee number in their system.
