I worked at BHP Billiton full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Remuneration, IT Equipment, Central Business District location

    Cons

Business politics, micromanagement, toxic behaviour (bullying & lying ) in department, a lot of talking about core values but not acting towards them.

    Advice to Management

Stop leadership for dummies buzzwords and start active listening to the employees, stop just promising changes and actually make changes, value the employees and not see them as executioners.

    Pros

Reputable company, secure job, nice physical environment, excellent workmates, good salary

    Cons

not safe to speak up, not always following up what they promise, the constantly changing structures are holding a high level of insecurity at all times. Very tiring.

    Advice to Management

Good communication with team members on career development to assist with career promotion. Annual reviews are important to not just tick off, clear goals and objectives should be given

"It depends who you work for. There are some really great people and some serious psychopaths"

    StarStarStarStarStar
    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    I worked at BHP Billiton

    Pros

Good money, smart people, office is nice, good coffee and fruit

    Cons

Long hours, the boys club, some of the really odd guys at the top who come straight out of “mad men”

    Advice to Management

When you are replying to constant serious complaints about a manager, try and look beyond the “but that’s just who they are” mantra and hold people to account equally. The “it crowd” is a little nauseating
