    I have been working at BHP part-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Outstanding global opportunities Top pay and benefits including flexible work Focus on culture thats caring as well as high performing - feel it everyday Smart leaders who have a great vision for the future Stunning offices, well equipped sites and facilities

    Cons

    Not as agile as it could be - yet Some leaders are not aligned to our culture but I suspect they won't stay long .

    Very large, interesting assets and projects.

    Cons

    Continual restructuring leads to continued uncertainty. Loss of corporate memory through churn.

    Increasingly hard to find.

    Cons

    Lack of direction, too many disruptive organisational initiatives - all executed badly or not at all, no interaction between leadership and teams, no empowerment, no career opportunities, little value placed on experience, rigid cookie cutter policies, lots of internal wheel spinning,

    I worked at BHP

    Pros

    Average pay. Office facilities good but does did constitute employee perk ? Large international company with global offices and location but if transferred relocation benefits don't help much. Complex and challenging work but insufficient resources to manage workload.

    Cons

    Worst company I've worked for due to bullying and harassment culture that is allowed to persist. HR and senior management aware of this culture, speak about change but don't actually do anything to effect change. Perpetrators and bullies allowed to continue inappropriate behaviours as long as they continue to achieve results. Complaints or concerns raised by staff are dismissed and not taken seriously or worst still covered up. Heavy workloads due to reduction in numbers. My department shed 20% staff in 2008 during GFC. Not allowed to increase after this period even when commodity pricing and profits high. Now when prices and profits have come down again, further reductions yet again. Remaining staff shouldering larger workload yet again.

    I worked at BHP full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Benefits and compensation above average. Well defined processes and policies, however can lead to bureaucracy at times. Nice office environment with great facilities. Staff generally high calibre and ambitious.

    Cons

    Culture can be regarded as aggressive where results come first at expense of employee health, safety and work life balance. Over emphasis on mistakes and errors over things that go well. Managers don't hesitate to contact staff after hours even for trivial matters that can wait until next work day. Certain parts of company are dysfunctional where team culture non existent as employees too focused on individual accolades.

    Pros

    Not many, company is more bureaucratic than the public service. It's profit could double if executives let people use their skills.

    Cons

    Lots, promotion is based on mate ship. Has no bearing on skills or performance reviews. My advice learn to fish and watch the promotions roll in.

    Pros

    Salary and package espically for living and working in remote locations (not FIFO) Amazing people who work at lower levels, opportunites to become involved with remote communities, and to be involved in something that can be positive at a lower level. Exploring the wonderful countryside visiting locations of the beaten track which otherwise wouldn't have been possible.

    Cons

    Spinless management who couldn't do the right thing if it hit them in the face, agree with one comment regarding South Africians them seem tobe in a position of power and if you are a female then don't even bother they will take it upon themselves to hound you until you leave. So many people have left becuase of the boys club and the senseless way they approach everything to do with projects, god help you if your budget is bigger than theirs. Management in Perth where ineffective too scared of their own jobs to be of help or assistance, lots of sloping shoulder syndrome and Teflon is a popular nickname as noone is every responsible other than the poor sod who is not inthe purple circle

    Pros

    multiple commodities, large long life deposits, money spent hand over fist to develop up and coming opportunities. Highly profitable and great learning ground.

    Cons

    Company is very concerned with risk; has not make an aggressive acquisition in quite some time, shale gas being the one meager exception. Lots of systems that leave not scope for employee initiative. Absolutly no consideration for people and employees, turn over in professional roles is very high. "leave your brain at teh gate" mentality fostered by multitude of procedures and systems.

    Good contract work, excellent salary.

    Cons

    Lack of leadership or program control. The organization functions like a group of independent contractors with individual goals rather than a team driving to one common goal.
